Lawrence School

For the past several years I've been privileged to work with Lawrence School, an independent, state-chartered, coeducational day school for students with learning differences and attention deficits in grades 1-12. Located in Broadview Heights, it's one of Clevelands best kept secrets. But to the students and parents alike, it's an answered prayer right here in Ohio.

Annually, parents and supporters head out for a night of celebration and recognition of students and support for the school. And, support they do! This year's benefit auction was a big success setting a record. And in the Fund-A-Need portion of the live auction, over $87,000 was raised and earmarked for tuition assistance for students who may not otherwise be able to attend Lawrence. What a blessing for those students needing the style of education Lawrence provides. Just amazing!

What was even more amazing was listening to the speeches given by two of Lawrence's students, one, a six grade girl and the other a tenth grade boy. I watched and listened intently as each presented their speech. You could here a pin drop as the young girl, who suffers from dyslexia, delivered the most beautiful and flawless speech. Her teachers were next to me, all smiles and with tears in their eyes as the young student mesmerized us all.

The second student, a young boy who was told over and over again how stupid he was from students in his former school, was absolutely elegant, poised and intellectual. His speech too was flawless and perfect with a wonderful touch of humor that had patrons laughing on cue. I had the privilege of watching him earlier in the evening as he greeted quests as they arrived. What an incredible young man.

What a blessing Lawrence School is to the community and to those students that learn differently. I'm so proud to be part of this great school's event and even more proud to see these young students grow into incredible people.
